If you know me, you know I am a cookbook fiend. I love the drama and the art and the magic of a new cookbook, with its beautiful photography, stories, and recipes that make me imagine dinner parties to come. Here are my 10 favorite cookbooks as of July 2019. These aren't exclusive to new books- they are my canon, my very favorite books that I reference over and over, and are trusted for their consistency and utility.
Happy cooking!!
Vietnamese Food Any Day
Oh gosh, this is my favorite cookbook maybe ever. I *LOVE* Vietnamese flavors and this cookbook makes it easy for anyone to access this gorgeous cuisine. All the recipes are foolproof, consistent, easy, and everything is delicious. I cook from this book at least once a week. Andrea Nguyen is a goddess. It's no surprise this made my list of the best cookbooks of 2019.
Simple Cake
I am a huge advocate of unfussy baking. 90% of the time, who needs or wants to do a 3-day baking project? I certainly don't. I love that this cookbook connects how baking and showing love are intrinsically connected. Also, I love that it's a choose your own adventure of sorts. Everything is gorgeous.
Six Seasons
This is my #farmersmarketinspo bible. Whenever I get a new seasonal ingredient from the market, I check this book for a new treatment of it or to get inspired. Just a classic.
BraveTart
Stella Parks is a goddess and is the best pastry expert out there full stop. I mostly do lazy baking but when I want to make something precise and come correct, Stella Parks is it.
Everything I Want to Eat
I stan for Sqirl -- a breakfast/lunch cafe in East Hollywood that really ushered in a new era of California Cooking -- so this cookbook is so wonderful when I want to copy a recipe from Sqirl / not wait in line. Jams especially. Normally I find restaurant cookbooks tiresome and inaccessible, with their myriad ingredients, but this one works.
Cook90
I love the choose your own adventure style of this cookbook, and I really align with its mission and vision of home cooking as being inherently healthier and cheaper. No need to do any dumb diets here, just cook good food at home. I make a pantry pasta from this cookbook like once a week minimum.
Sweeter off the Vine
Yossy Arefi was one of the first Instagrammers I followed when I got into food blogging. Seasonal baking + produce forward recipes + some unexpected uses of interesting flours or sugars -- a classic, great baking book.
Genius Recipes
Genius Recipes is definitely not new but is so trusted for me. I reference it constantly when I want to make a really delicious, standby dinner. The ginger fried rice they have is so so great.
Date Night In
Ashley Rodriguez is from Seattle and this cookbook just exudes PNW seasonal cooking to me. I use it at least once a month for cooking at home. She very much inspired this herby risotto recipe - and I love that she provides grocery lists and work backs for us detail-oriented, process-oriented worker-bees.
Citrus
You all know how much I swoon over citrus - it makes the winter months almost tolerable. Citrus is a lifestyle here in CA, and this book captures that essence. My good family friend Victoria Pearson did the photography for it, too. I particularly love the citrus roasted salmon!!!
There you have it! My favourite cookbooks for the summer of 2019!
